Buying Spectacle Online from AusSpecs should be a simple and worry free experience.

For new clients the easiest and safest way to get started is to choose a pair of our quality frames that are as close as possible to your existing Spectacles. As you gain more confidence you will find that the low price of our quality Spectacles allows you the freedom to experiment with colours and shapes and you may even wish to change your whole persona.

The only thing you need for us to be able to make your Prescription Spectacles is the Prescription.

The rest is very simple, just follow the steps in the online order form and receive your Spectacles direct to your door

Special Note : When you visit the Optometrist you pay them to examine your eyes and write you a prescription for the Spectacles you require.
Please remember that , even if Medi-Care picks up the bill, "you" have paid for the examination so you are entitle (by law) to a legible copy of this prescription and you are definitely under no obligation to buy your Spectacle from the store in which the Optometrist works. By all means obtain a quote for your Spectacles so you can see the massive savings you will make with AusSpecs.

Some facts about buying Prescription Spectacles from AusSpecs

  • Contrary to what many professionals in the industry will have you believe, spectacles can and are safely bought online from AusSpecs as our many thousands of clients will attest.
  • Multifocal adjustment. Multifocals may need adjusting to suit your facial features and position the focal points correctly. This is something you will need to either do yourself or have your optical professional do for you. This may be an inconvenience but far outweighed by the cost savings made.
  • An optical prescription is simply a mathematical formulae which AusSpecs professionals use to make you perfect Spectacles every time.
  • Multi-Focals (Progressives) can be supplied online by AusSpecs. Our unique formulae has been perfected over 10's of thousands of Multi-Focal Lenses.
  • With our Head Office in Kwinana Western Australia you can be assured that we are an Australian Registered Business which affords you the added security of dealing with local people if ever there is a problem.

Australia's Cheapest Prices :

We offer the lowest possible wholesale price to all Australians! As you possibly already know prices of the retail eyewear is exorbitantly high.

You can buy multiple pairs of eyeglasses in AusSpecs for the same price as one pair of eyeglasses from your local optical shop.

A pair of single focus reading or distance glasses cost around $150+ from the retail outlets. We offer a the same quality, professionally manufactured spectacles at $ 38.00 (apples for apples)!

Please check the price of Multi Focal (Progressive) glasses at your local retail outlet and then compare the AusSpecs of just $ 117.95 for the same quality product.

High quality :

23 years manufacturing experience allows us to offer all customers a really low price while maintaining the highest quality products from our Kwinana, Canningvale, Sydney and Hong Kong operations.

TopBranded AusSpecs Spectacles GEM Frames

The Branded frames are high quality optical frames distributed throguh our WA facilities.

The AusSpecs Spectacles Branded frames are distributed from our Sydney Facility and offer some different Lens Options than the GEM Frames.

For Example, Polarized Lenses are very popular in Australia so we offer these lenses, at a really cheap price, out of our Australian Facility

GEM Frames are of course the same high quality but are dispatched directly from our International Facility in Hong Kong. Go to top

TopWhy So Cheap ? Too Good To Be True ??

Too Good To Be True ? - Absolutely Not . This IS the Real Price of Prescription Glasses in the Real World

Around the World, where optical markets have been deregulated, Prescription Glasses are by no means an expensive item, as we have been conned into believing, here in Australia.

Does this mean the Quality is lesser than the Retail Stores ? - Again - Absolutely Not. Our glasses are made to the highest quality standards which is why we can offer a No Questions Asked Money Back Guarantee so you can have confidence when buying from AusSpecs !

Australians have been paying far too much for eyeglasses for decades compared to the rest of the World, so , if Prescription Glasses ( Spectacles ) are not expensive to make. This begs the question, why have we been paying Hundreds of Dollars for a Frame that can cost as little as $10 to make ? Top

TopPhotochromic Lenses

Photochromic Lenses are those that change colour in the sun.

While clear indoors they become darker in the sun. The darkness of the lens is dependent on the UV radiation on any given day.

The ability to change colour is in the lens itself as opposed to a tint (an applied layer) so when ordering do not be confused between the two.

Again, dependent on your prescription, you will be offered a choice of a Clear to Grey transition or Clear to Brown.

You need to be aware that Photochromic lenses are not at their optimum inside a motor vehicle. The reason being that the laminated front window cuts a great deal of UV light (as do the other windows to a lesser extent) which in turn does not afford the lenses sufficient UV to react completely.

TopMagnetic Clip-On frames

clip-on sunshade An alternative to tinted lenses is the magnetic clip-on range of frames

The clip-on sunshade is made to suit the individual frame at manufacture. Each piece has 2 small magnets set into the frames so the bond between the sunshade and the frame is quite strong but can be easily removed for clear vision inside.

Please note that because each shade is made to match each individual frame at the time of manufacture, replacement sunshades are not available.

TopChoosing your glasses

By far the best advice is to stick close to the measurements of your current glasses until you gain the confidence to experiment a little.

A few mm either way should not be of great concern

If you do not have old glasses you will ned to measure the thickness of your head from temple to temple.

With this measurement you can now look for a pair of glasses with a similar Total Width. (see measuring your glasses below)

Go to top

TopMeasuring my Glasses

how to measure your glasses

If not worn away you should find the measurements of your current glasses on the inside of one of the arms.

Generally it looks something like this: 52[ ] 18 145 These measurements relate to 52 is the lens diameter, 18 is the bridge width and 145 is the arm length.

Lens diameter - The width across the widest part of the lens.

Bridge width - The width across the nose bridge.

Arm width - The length of the arms Go to top

Top PD - Pupillary Distance

Pupilliary Distance

The PD or pupillary distance is the distance between the centre of the pupils of each eye.

It is important to have this measurement correct, even more so with progressive/multifocal lenses as it ensures your glasses are aligned properly when we make them for you.

Your Optometrist is a medical professional and as such they should have the health of your eyes as their primary concern. At the time of having your eyes tested ask the Optometrist to note your Pupillary Distance on your prescription.

If you do not have your pupillary distance phone your optometrist and get this measurement from them. They normally notate this measurement but for reasons known only to those in the industry, do not share this with the client.

If it is not available you can measure this yourself and, even better, get a friend to help.

Tip : One good way is tolook into the distance and have a friend put a mark on an old pair of glasses and then measure this distance

Distance (Far) PD :

  • PD Far : This is the distance between the centre of your pupils when you are looking into the distance and is used (obviously) for distance glasses.
  • Remember to look straight ahead and into the distance and measure the distance between the the center of your pupils.

Reading (Near) PD:

  • PD Near is the measurement between the centre of your pupils when you are looking at something that is at your normal distance for reading a book.
  • Focus on a book or similar at normal reading distance when measuring your Near PD. .

Multifocal Wearers : It is important to get these two measurement ( PD Far and Near (always referred to in that order)) to enable us to make your glasses accurately .If these measurement are not on your prescription then the first avenue to obtaining this is to either demand it at the time of having the prescription written or phone and demand it at a later time. The Optometrist has been paid by you to do this job. You are entitle to the Full prescription.

Different ways to write the same thing ;

My PD (Pupillary Distance) is marked on my script as (example) Right 31 Left 32.5 (or similar) ?

This method is sometimes used by optometrists and it is the measurement from the centre of your pupil to the centre of the bridge of your nose respectively.

My PD (Pupillary Distance) is marked on my script as just 31(example).

The same as above but the distance is 31 from the centre of your pupil to the centre of the bridge of your nose on both sides
.

Another Method is (example) 65 / 63. This the best measurement and means your PD is 65 mm for DISTANCE (Far) viewing and 63 for NEAR viewing. Go to top

Top Information required to by AusSpecs?

All you need to purchase quality prescription spectacles from AusSpecs at our low low prices is your prescription.

With your prescription or 'Rx form ' from your optometrist just choose your frames and fill in the blanks in the order form and we will customize your eyeglasses to your prescription .

New Clients - It is highly recommended that you send us a copy of you prescription . Go to top

Top I don't have a prescription - what can I do ?

If you do not have your prescription - "Please" - feel free to phone the last optometrist you had your eyes tested with and ask them to send (or fax) your prescription to you.

Remember, you have paid the optometrist to check your eyes and write the prescription. The
optometrist must - by law - provide you with a clear and readable copy of your prescription (Rx form).

Think of your Optometrist as the Doctor and the store in which they work as the Chemist. You do not have to use the chemist store inside the doctors surgery to fill the script.

Feel guilty about asking ? Remember that typically you will pay 5 to 10 times more through a retail outlet than through AusSpecs for the same glasses so don't get caught by slick sales talk.

Need a new prescription ?

Simply visit your optometrist for a normal checkup ..one eye test each 2 years is covered by MediCare.

Ask for your prescription ! The fact that there is a law that ensures you must be given a copy on demand must tell you something !

NOTE : Ask them to include your pupillary distance (or PD) on your prescription (but if they do not that is not a problem... see the section above on PD).

DO NOT GET TALKED INTO BUYING THERE AND THEN.... you WILL pay through the nose ! Go to top

Top Problem with my glasses

Each pair of AusSpecs glasses is inspected by one of our four Registered Optometrists to ensure the accuracy of the prescription and proper alignment of the frame.

If there is a problem with your glasses when they arrive you need to let us know as soon as possible so we can sort out the problem.

Your glasses are covered for 12 months for Falty Workmanship. Breaking the frame or scratching the lenses is not warranted.

Having said that , these cases are attractive and durable which is really important taking care of your new glasses and especially for shipping through the post.

There are many uses for them when not needed for your eyeglasses.Floding Glasses CaseA Leather case is supplied for Folding Glasses Go to top

Go to top Re-Glazing of Your Existing Frames

Lens Replacement (Re-Glazing) service for your Old Favorites is not necessarily a cheaper option to purchasing new frames and lenses.

The system is very simple.

On the glasses display page choose the Lens Replacement option from the Frame Style drop down menu. Choose the type of frame you have ( full frame, semi-rimless or rimless) and add it to the shopping cart.

Process your prescription through the online system and choose the lens required just as you would a new pair of glasses and make payment as normal.

You will receive a Tax Invoice when the order is processed.

Within approx 48 hours you should receive specific instructions ( including the all important re-glaze code) on how to send the frames to our Lens Laboratory in Perth Western Australia

When the lenses have been fitted you will receive a shipping notice and a tracking code.

Please be aware that there are some things you need to know about re-glazing existing frames.

Your frames must be suitable for prescription lenses.

Curved Lenses (e.g. Sunglasses frames) : For curved lenses you may be asked to send a photo of your lenses to AusSpecs to ensure they can be produced. Curved lenses incur an additional charge of $50 because of the considerable extra work required.

Lens re-glazing is NOT an overnight option and can take a number of weeks. If you are in a hurry then we suggest that you purchase a pair from the AusSpecs website as a backup before sending your glasses for re-glazing.

Very Important ... It is possible, not common but possible, that your frame can break or become damaged during the reglazing process.

For obvious reasons AusSpecs cannot and will not offer compensation or replacement of your frames if this eventuates. We will of course refund your order (less postage if you want the broken frames back).

Very Important .. Our faith in Australia Post over years has waned somewhat and to this extent AusSpecs will not be responsible if your glasses become "Lost or damaged in the Post" whether it be when you send the glasses to us or after we have re-glazed the glasses and are returning them to you.

These requirements form part of the conditions of purchase that you are required to agreed to before we can accept an order.

Top Clean My Glasses

Q. How do I clean my glasses so they keep for longer?

A. ONLY wash your glasses in mild soap and water.

Forget all the fancy cleaners and buy a mild soap or even better a bottle of Baby Shampoo. It should last you a long time and its cheap.

Never use Windex or similar as they contain ammonia

Dry the lenses with clean microfiber.

NEVER EVER use tissues to clean or dry your glasses. Tissues are made of wood fiber and will scratch your lenses

Please remember that chemicals in perfumes, sun block sweat etc can be acidic and damage your lenses and in fact the frames as well.
